Houston Astros Advance to ALCS

The Houston Astros advance to their seventh uninterrupted American League Championship Series. The Astros won their series against the Minnesota Twins 3-1 after Wednesday night’s 3-2 victory. Houston was well rested for their first series after a bye week during the Wild Card Series.

The fight for the Lone Star State begins on Sunday when the Texas Rangers and Astros face off in Houston’s Minute Maid Park.

Looking Forward

Houston Manager Dusty Baker says it’s going to be a “heck of a series” because of how tough the Rangers are. Both teams closed the season 90-72 in the AL West, but the Astros are 9-4 against the Rangers this season.

Baker has trust in Astros first baseman José Abreu, who hit three home runs over a two-game span. Baker hopes Abreu can continue his success into the World Series.

“There are times when you just have to rely on faith and rely on a guy’s background,” Baker said, “He drove in 29 runs in September, that’s getting it done down the clutch.”

Abreu says his team is a group of warriors, and he isn’t worried about the upcoming challenge of the Rangers.

Astros pitcher José Urquidy is comfortable on his team because he is confident in his catcher, offense and defense. He pitched for almost six innings. Urquidy had six strikeouts during Wednesday’s game, five of which were in a row.

The battle of Texas begins on Sunday with the time set to be announced.
