Gators Travel to South Carolina To Face Gamecocks

Coming off a win against Vanderbilt last Saturday, the Gators head to South Carolina to face the Gamecocks starting at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The Gators sit at 4-2 overall, 2-1 in the SEC, while the Gamecocks are 2-3, 1-2.

What’s at Stake

This game holds massive implications for both teams. It will be a telling game for the Gators, who are looking for a their first road win of the season. Both teams need a win if they are to reach a winning record.

Last year, Florida defeated the Gamecocks in Ben Hill Griffin, 38-6. But, the Gators have lost four of the past six games in Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C.

Coach Billy Napier says playing away from The Swamps is a challenge the Gators need to overcome. The Gators have struggled with a 1-7 record on the road in Napier’s short tenure.

Gamecock Force

Team leader and South Carolina quarterback, Spencer Rattler will be the force for the Gators to watch out for. Rattler has led the Gamecocks to many successes and his passing game has helped him do so. He has completed 67% of his throws. But, the Gators lead the SEC in fewest yards given up and are tied for fewest passing touchdowns completed.

Center Jake Slaughter says the Gators are preparing to do some damage running the ball, while stopping the USC run game.

Sophomore running back, Trevor Etienne is also expected to be back on the field for the Gators. He had a standout game last year against South Carolina, with 100 rushing yards. Ricky Pearsall has also become a go-to for Gators quarterback Graham Mertz.

The SEC Network will televise the key SEC game, which an also be heard on ESPN Gainesville 98.1-FM/850-AM WRUF.
