Gators Swim and Dive Complete Day One of Florida Invitational

The No.4/3-ranked Gators men’s and women’s swim and dive teams concluded day one of the Florida Invitational with top times against the Nova Southeastern Sharks at the O’Connell Center on Thursday.

Personal Bests and B-Cuts

Of the 11 Gators who competed in three individual events against the in-state opponent, five recorded personal best times and four recorded b-cuts.

In prelims, junior Ben Cote went 4:19.63 in the 500-yard freestyle, earning a b-cut and surpassing his previous best of 4:20.28. Aryan Nehra made the b-cut in both sessions, the latter time at 4:19.37.

In the finals, Caleb Maldari and Cam Abaqueta swam best times in the 200-yard IM. Maldari went 1:44.99 with a b-cut, while Abaqueta went 1:46.84.

For the 50-yard free, Melissa Cowen opted to swim breaststroke, finishing with a personal best 29.04. Swimming freestyle, sophomore Daniel Gordon swam a personal best 20.05.

The invite continues today at the O’Connell Center’s natatorium with prelims at 9:30 a.m. and finals at 4 p.m.
