Florida Sports Weekend Schedule Loaded

The Florida Gators have eight teams participating in varying levels of competition this weekend.

Hoping for a Stark(ville) contrast

The weekend begins with women’s tennis taking to the court at Mississippi State. The team boasts two ranked wins this season with an overall record of 4-6. The team’s head coach Per Nilsson celebrated his first SEC win against the No. 9 Texas Longhorns on Friday.

Senior Alicia Dudeney leads the team in ranked wins after picking up her third against the Longhorns. She and the Gators will play the Mississippi State Bulldogs at 3 p.m. in Starkville, Missippi.

On Sunday, they travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for a match against the Crimson Tide

Volunteering for a loss

After playing 17 games against unranked teams, the Florida Gators baseball team is looking to prove itself against the best in the nation. Starting with the No. 5 Florida State Seminoles, the team seeks their first ranked win on the road.

This weekend, the team begins a three-game series against the No. 2 Tennessee Volunteers. Defeating the raining College World Series Champions may give Florida the boost to breeze their way to Omaha.

In the Gators 2024 three-game series against Tennessee, the team went 1-2. The third game of the series ended in a run-rule after the seventh inning. The Vols have two ranked wins under their belt this season, so this will be a tough matchup for Florida.

Chomp but Don’t Stomp

The No. 3 Florida gymnastics team is looking for its tenth win of the season this weekend. They will face the No. 10 Kentucky Wildcats at home. This is their last competition before the SEC Championship on March 22.

Senior Leanne Wong has turned up the heat on the back half of the season. Her near-perfect 39.725 was the third best all-around score in the nation this season. Not only has she accomplished this feat, but she has done it twice. Her first time posting the score this season was at the season opener against No. 11 Michigan State, No. 23 University of Nebraska and Northern Illinois University

They take on the University of Kentucky at 6:45 on Friday night.

Tracking Down the Gold

The Florida Gators track and field team seeking success in Virginia Beach. The 15-time National Champions look to extend their lucrative season with victory at nationals. The competition will span over two-days, concluding on Saturday with a new Indoor National Champion.

Serving Pork for Dinner

On Saturday, the men’s tennis team will take on the Arkansas Razorbacks at home. The team will compete to snap its three-game losing streak. Despite going 8-7 so far this season, the team has been unable to notch a win in March.

Play will begin at Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex at noon.

The One with the Gators and the Bears

In their six matches, the Florida lacrosse team has faced four ranked opponents. This allows their 4-2 record to put them at No. 3 in the nation.

On Wednesday, they face another ranked opponent with No. 23 Navy. This weekend, the team travels to Macon, Georgia, to face Mercer University, which will be their first game against an unranked team since February 18.

Chomping the Horns

While the baseball team takes on Tennessee, the No. 3 Florida Gators softball team will compete against the other SEC team in orange. Their three-game series against the No. 2 Texas Longhorns begins on Saturday at 2 p.m.

May the Madness Begin

The SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament begins on Wednesday. However, No. 5 Florida earned a double bye after winning 14 of their 17 SEC matchups. The team begins play on Friday at 7 p.m. against Louisiana State University, Mississippi State or Missouri

Florida’s last win at the SEC Tournament was over a decade ago in 2014. With the potential of a No. 1 seed for the NCAA Tournament on the line, the Gators will look to add one more accolade to their impressive season.
