No. 4 Florida softball improved to 29-4 after defeating the Jacksonville Dolphins 5-2 on Wednesday night.
As they’ve done all season, the Gators started things right away in the first inning after both Kendra Falby and Taylor Shumaker scored. From there, Florida never looked back.
Ava Brown had herself a night for the Gators. The sophomore from Montgomery, Texas dominated both in the circle and at the dish. Brown pitched four shutout innings while giving up just two hits with six strikeouts. Brown is now 6-0 on the season with a 2.10 ERA. At the plate she went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, her second of the season. Brown was the only Gator to record two hits Wednesday night.

Brown came in to relief starter Kara Hammock, who gave up two runs (one earned run) and three hits in three innings of work. Hammock reached a milestone Wednesday night, recording her 300th career strikeout.
Speaking of milestones, Falby is nine stolen bases away from setting a new program stolen base record after recording two against Jacksonville. Falby is currently at 111. Falby also extended her on-base streak to 33 games Wednesday night.
The Gators recorded their 19th multi home run game of the season. In addition to Brown, Mia Williams cleared the fence for her 10th home run of the season. The only other Gator in double digits this season is Shumaker, who has hit 13, tied for the fourth-most in the country.
