Florida Men’s Tennis Falls Short At Mississippi State

The Florida Gators men’s tennis team lost to Mississippi State 5-2 on Saturday at the A.J. Pitt Tennis Centre in Starkville. This brings Florida’s overall record to 12-8 and 6-4 in SEC play. MSU (17-4, 7-3) broke the Gator’s four-game win streak.

Doubles

On court two, Jeremy Jin and Adhithya Ganesan fell to No. 39 Noccolo Baroni and M. Martinez Serrano, 6-4. MSU earned the doubles point after No. 4 Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez defeated Florida duo No. 18 Henry Jefferson and Tanapatt Nirundorn 6-2.

Singles

The Bulldogs added to their lead on court four where No. 113 Jefferson was defeated in two sets by No. 95 Serrano, 6-2, 6-2. However, Niels Villard was able to secure a point for Florida against R. Ferrer Guimaraes in a quick 6-2, 6-1 win.

The Gators were not able to hold onto this momentum losing the next match on court three. JanMagnus Johnson lost the first set to No. 117 Baroni, 6-1, followed by a loss in the second set 6-4. This gave the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead against the Gators.

Edengren, on court five, defeated Dusan Milanovic, 6-3, 6-4, securing the second win for Florida, bringing the score to 3-2. The Bulldogs found their fourth point for the win when No 124 Ganesan lost to No. 38 Martinez, 6-3, 6-2.

Although MSU won, the teams finished the match on court two. No. 65 Jin lost to No. 100 Jovanovic. Jin lost the first set, 7-5, followed by a second set loss 6-3.
