Florida men’s basketball players Denzel Aberdeen and Sam Alexis plan to enter the transfer portal, they both announced on Friday.
Denzel Aberdeen
The junior guard just wrapped up his third season as a Gator. Hailing from Orlando, Florida, Aberdeen committed to Florida in 2021. Despite the departure of former Florida head coach Mike White, he remained committed and signed with the team in June 2022.
Aberdeen has steadily increased his production during his time at Florida. He appeared in only 12 games in the 2022-23 season. He played in 32 games as a sophomore in 2023-24, averaging 9.7 minutes and 3.3 points per game. This year he ascended into the SEC spotlight with the Gators, averaging 19.7 minutes and 7.7 points per game.
When Walter Clayton Jr. couldn’t play due to injury in early February, Aberdeen filled in as a starter in the Gators’ win over Vanderbilt. He averaged 31.3 minutes per game and 16.3 points during a four-game stretch during the SEC slate.
“He just played with Great confidence tonight. He was fearless. He attacked for all 20 minutes he was out there,” Golden said. “He gave us a big lift.”
The departure comes two days after transfer senior guard Xaivian Lee announced his commitment to the Gators. Lee is the 28th-ranked player in the transfer portal according to 247Sports.
