Florida Soccer to Take on Texas on Road
The Florida soccer team is in Austin today to take on the Texas Longhorns, as the SEC gauntlet schedule continues.
The Gators (4-5-3, 0-2-3 SEC) completed a 1-1 tie at home against the Kentucky Wildcats on Thursday unable to get their first win in SEC play.
Texas ( 3-8-1, 1-4) is searching for its tsecond win in the conference after a 0-1 loss to Texas A&M in College Station.
Both teams are coming off different stories from last year. Florida ended 2024 in an unimpressive fashion at 4-8-6, while Texas (17-4-2) has fallen off a cliff compared to last year’s record. Texas finished third in the SEC and eventually won the conference championship in its first year competing in the SEC.
Florida contributed one of Texas’s two losses last year in an upset win 2-1. Gators coach Samantha Bohon is (1-1-1) against Texas during her four-year tenure. The Gators lost to the Longhorns on the road in 2022 and tied at home in 2021.
Florida’s underclassmen duo of Kai Tsakiris and Addy Hess have stood out in recent weeks and could be X-factors against Texas. The duo are tied for three goals each to lead the team halfway through this season.
Hess added her third goal Thursday against Kentucky on a cross assist from Megan Hinnenkamp, her third.
“I think all of these games gave us more confidence going into the next one knowing we can compete with these teams,” Hess said. “We’ve played ranked teams and tied them, we just need to keep the momentum going.”
Florida battles Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium at 3 p.m. ET (SEC Network+).
