Florida Knocks Texas Out of AP Top 25 College Football Poll
The Florida Gators delivered two blows to Texas – first handling the Longhorns a 29-21 defeat Saturday, then pushing them out of Sunday’s latest AP Poll Top 25 rankings. Texas entered the season as the No. 1 team in the country, but its 3-2 start has jeopardized their College Football Playoff chances. Quarterback Arch Manning has struggled to find his rhythm all season, and losing to the unranked Gators doesn’t look good on the Longhorns’ resume.
As Dallas Wilson ran into the end zone for a 55-yard touchdown at the end of the third quarter, Texas fans realized their season may end sooner than anticipated. However, with four more ranked opponents on their schedule — Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Georgia and Texas A&M — the Longhorns can make some noise and climb their way back into the Top 25 with a win against No. 11 Oklahoma.
Nine SEC teams made the latest AP Poll, with seven ranked in the top 12. Although many SEC teams were on bye Saturday, the teams in action didn’t disappoint.

Alabama has found its footing, moving its win streak to four after defeating Vanderbilt, 30-14. Many people questioned the legitimacy of this Alabama team following its season-opening loss to FSU. The Crimson Tide shut out Vanderbilt in the second half and moved up two spots to No. 8 in the AP Poll following Saturday’s win. Vanderbilt dropped four spots to No. 20.
Texas A&M remains undefeated and has earned their way into the top five after handing Mississippi State its first loss of the season in a dominant 31-9 victory. The Aggies defense limited Mississippi State to 219 yards of offense and kept them out of the end zone the entire game. Their offense will be put to the test on Saturday when the Gators, who rank top 25 in total defense, come into town.
Miami has solidified itself as the best football team in the Sunshine State, winning its third straight game against an in-state opponent after defeating FSU, 28-22. The Hurricanes held a 28-3 lead through three quarters, and allowed the game to become close down the stretch. The Hurricanes are now ranked No. 2, while the Seminoles barely remain in the poll at No. 25.
Penn State saw the biggest decline following its shocking 42-37 loss to UCLA. Penn State was the first top-10 program to lose to a team with a record of 0-4 or worse in 40 seasons. The Nittany Lions are no longer in the Top 25 and have minimal margin for error, already having two losses on the year.
Ole Miss, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee and Missouri still remain in the Top 25 heading into Week 7.
