Jocelyn Erickson Powers No. 5/8 Florida Softball In SEC Play

March 10, 2026

Jocelyn Erickson stands alone on her home field following a win. Most of the crowd had trickled out by that point, and the bright stadium lights shine on her face as she films a post-game video. This isn’t Erickson’s first time in the spotlight, and it won’t be her last.

Erickson, a senior catcher for Florida, leads her team in home runs and RBIs. She’s second for runs, only behind sophomore Taylor Shumaker. In all the categories, she ranks in the top-10 nationally.

She is also the only catcher in the NCAA top ten for runs, and there is only one other catcher in top ten categories for home runs and RBIs each.

Erickson hit 15 home runs in her 2024 and 2025 seasons each. (Before transferring to Florida, she hit seven home runs as a freshman with Oklahoma.) This year, she already has 13 home runs. She holds a .488 batting average for the season so far, along with a .989 fielding percentage.

Erickson not only leads in the country — she leads on her team too.

Before the season started, she was selected as one of Florida’s softball team captains. Being recognized for the role is something special to her, she said.

“It helps me know that my teammates see me as a leader of the team,” Erickson said. “They know that I have their back.”

Her teammates know she wants the best for them and the team, she added.

Of Florida players who have had at least two plate appearances per game and have played in 75% or more games, five players are batting .400 or more for the season so far, including Erickson. She has the highest slugging percentage on the team as well, currently sitting at 1.042.

Alongside batting, Erickson’s work behind the plate has also proven to be strong. For her past two seasons in a row, she earned the Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

During her 2024 sophomore season, she caught 13 runners stealing, putting her at second in the SEC for that category. She also ranked second in runners picked off in the conference.

In her 2025 junior season, Erickson caught nine runners stealing, and she earned the same second-place conference standing in the caught stealing by category.

“I don’t know how you ever replace a Jocelyn Erickson,” said Florida softball head coach Tim Walton. “I’ve never seen anyone like this, behind the plate or in the box.”
