Florida Football Recruiting: Sumrall, Staff Working on 2027 Class

March 11, 2026

As coach football coach Jon Sumrall prepares for his first season with the Florida Gators, he is already on the lookout for how to strengthen his future teams.

Sumrall has taken multiple campus visits from four-star athletes to show them what playing with Florida would look like. Notable recruits like wide receiver Anthony Jennings and defensive lineman Tyler Alexander were part of these official visits.

Jennings, who plays for Dillard in Fort Lauderdale, is ranked the No. 30 wide receiver in the ’27 class and has already received attention from several major Division I programs like Georgia, Auburn, Florida State and Boston College. Jennings had 823 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns for the 2025 season.

Alexander, from Palm Beach Central High School in Wellington, is ranked No. 55 among defensive linemen in the ’27 class. As a junior, Alexander had a total of 46 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He is also drawing interest from Florida State, Kentucky, Louisville and Maryland.

Adding to Sumrall’s offense and defense is crucial, as many notable players have transferred out of the program.

”The message was very clear from everyone I met with — the coaches, support staff and front office,” Alexander said.  “They want me to be a Gator and a major piece of their 2027 class.”

Recruiting is showing how determined Sumrall is on the trail for talent.

“I’ll recruit with my hair on fire,” Sumrall said in his initial news conference in December. “I’ll recruit all the time.”
