Florida Softball’s Keagan Rothrock: Staple in Softball Success
Since 2024, Keagan Rothrock has been synonymous with Florida softball success (26-1, 3-0).
The junior pitcher (14-1) proved her potential early on in her career. As a freshman, Rothrock made 50 appearances in the circle, 45 of which she started. She has thrown 201 strikeouts in 262 innings, with a 2.59 ERA. In the end, she earned the title of SEC Freshman of the Year with multiple first-place National and SEC ranks to back it.
Entering her Sophomore year, Rothrock was once again expected to be a standout. However, injuries had other plans. After she was diagnosed with compartment syndrome, a condition where the muscles swell and blood flow decreases, she was off the field for five weeks. This equated to five losses for the Gators. Her stats reflected the difficult season: only 28 pitching appearances and 3.24 ERA.
Entering 2026, the righty had something to prove. The Gators started the season hot, staying undefeated until a 12-15 loss against UCLA. This streak-ending game came during the Judi Garman Classic, a tournament in which fellow pitcher Ava Brown was injured. After seeing her teammate face a familiar obstacle, Rothrock rallied, helping fill her spot. She took it on her shoulders — or arm — gracefully. The Gators haven’t lost since.
Most recently, she helped Florida sweep Missouri in last week’s series, where she pitched 15 of 25 innings. She also became the first Florida pitcher to earn all three wins of an SEC series since 2011.
“I thought Keagan had a really good weekend for us,” Florida coach Tim Walton said. “She pitched in all three games, but came in the game with a new role yesterday that she hasn’t had a bunch of times this year. And today’s start was really efficient, and she didn’t give up a whole lot of free passes.”
Currently, Rothrock also leads the NCAA in individual victories. Her impressive stats don’t end here, as she has 75.2 innings pitched and a 2.41 ERA.
The junior’s next test will come with Florida’s weekend series against Kentucky (19-6, 1-2) in Lexington. Karissa Hamilton ranks as one of the Wildcats best hitters. She holds a .432 batting average and has driven in 28 RBIs. Not to mention, she has five home runs this season.
