No. 3 Florida Softball Aims to Extend Win Streak vs. Stetson
Fresh off their win against then-No.1 Tennessee, No. 3 Florida softball isn’t done yet.
The Gators (31-2, 8-1 SEC) plays Stetson today at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium at 6 p.m. hoping to carry that momentum into another midweek matchup. Florida dominated this series over the decades, holding a 22-2 record and winning 12 straight games against the Hatters dating back to 2006. The Gators have also maintained a perfect 17-0 record in Gainesville.
Florida’s well-rounded performance and consistency have driven its success. It’s ranked top five nationally in multiple categories, including batting average (.389), home runs (71) and RBIs (292). The Gators’ 71 home runs rank ninth in program history for a single season. The team averages two home runs per game.
At the center of it all is sophomore Taylor Shumaker, who has taken charge offensively on the field. On Tuesday, she was named the SEC Player of the Week for the second time this season after playing a major role in the Gators’ 2-1 series victory against Tennessee. Shumaker hit a team-best .500 and extended her hitting streak to a career-best 15 games. She is also ranked second in the NCAA in runs scored (52), third in hits (56) and fifth in total bases (106).
However, Florida’s success hasn’t been limited to its offense. The Gators have only committed two errors over their last 10 games and hold a .982 fielding average, which is ranked eighth in the NCAA. In the circle, Keagan Rothrock leads in victories with a nation-best 17-2 record on the season. Gabi Comia and Kenleigh Cahalan were also named the Softball America Co-Defensive Players of the Week.
Stetson (19-13) aims to pose a challenge for Florida, which is 7-0 against in-state opponents this season.
With SEC play this weekend, today’s matchup allows the Gators to maintain consistency and continue building momentum as the season continues. The contest airs on 98.1-FM/850-AM WRUF at 5:40 p.m. and on the SEC Network+ at 6 p.m.
