Buchholz Boys Lacrosse Rolls Leon for Fifth Straight Win
Buchholz boys lacrosse clawed visiting Tallahassee Leon High School 18-4 on Friday night. The Bobcats (10-5) have scored at least 14 goals in each of their five straight wins.
Spring break seemed to have energized the Bobcats, who went 3-0 this week.
“I gave them every single day off, and we came back with a lot of energy,” coach Casey Adams said. “A lot of the bumps and bruises healed. So we just came back with a lot of juice.”
The Bobcats struck first two minutes into the game with a goal by sophomore Kade Griggs. Leon (6-5) quickly responded a minute later with a goal from senior Khayeel Bragdon.
The Bobcats and Lions then traded goals to again to tie the game at two.
After the goal trade, senior Drew King took over and scored three goals for the Bobcats in a minute to give them a 5-2 lead. The Lions finished out the quarter with a goal from junior Liam Trotman.
“From the start, Richie Bendekovic was feeding me great passes so that tuned me in, and I was able to just connect all night,” King said.
The Bobcats continued to dominate in the second quarter, scoring six goals, three from King. Senior Ryan Pomeranz and juniors Leland Spooner and Daniel Swift scored the other goals for Buchholz.
Leon was able to score a lone goal from Bragdon, as the Bobcats headed into the half with an 11-4 lead. The Bobcats outshot the Lions 18-5 in the half.
“We’ve had some one-goal games in the middle of the season, and I think that’s made us become more aggressive on the offensive end,” King said.
The Bobcats scored an early second-half goal by Swift to take a 12-4 lead. Buchholz continued to lay it down on Leon, scoring four more goals in the quarter, including a seventh goal from King.
Buchholz closed out the game with a third goal from Swift and a second goal from sophomore Zach Stuart. Buchholz won all 24 faceoffs in the game and outshot the Lions 34-8.
“I don’t think we lost a single [faceoff].” Adams said, “So it’s really nice when that happens because you score and then you simply get the ball back.”
The Bobcats will travel to St. Augustine to face Menendez (9-5) for a 6 p.m. Tuesday match.
