Jon Gruden Joined Florida Football Coaching Clinic

March 30, 2026

Former NFL Coach Jon Gruden attended the Florida football coaching clinic as a keynote speaker at the Heavener Football Complex on Friday.

This was Florida’s first coaching clinic under head coach Jon Sumrall, attracting roughly 350 coaches from around the country. The event was a huge success for Sumrall and his program. The support from all of the coaches was monumental and his team had the benefit of learning from football legends.

Gruden coached in the NFL for 22 seasons including 15 as a head coach. His coaching career spanned from 1990 to 2021, starting as an offensive assistant with the San Francisco 49ers and ending as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. In 2002, Gruden led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl ring in his first season with the team.

He resigned from the Raiders in 2021 to end his coaching career.

Gruden is still involved in the football world and media work with Barstool Sports. His name was even mentioned by fans in the pool of who could be named the next head coach of the Gators after the firing of Billy Napier in October 2025.

Gruden wasn’t the only football royal in the building. Former Gators head coach Urban Meyer, head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars Liam Coen and retired New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin were also present on Friday. Both Gruden and Meyer spoke to the team after their morning practice on the field, and Gruden emphasized effort and enthusiasm to the team.

To welcome him to The Swamp, Gruden was gifted a Gators uniform with his name on it and Florida apparel. He did social media promotions for the Gators on all platforms, showing his Florida football knowledge by naming 18 Gators in 30 seconds

Time will tell if Gruden’s influence truly made a difference as the Gators continue spring practice and prepare for the Orange and Blue game on April 11.
