Florida Reliever Jackson Barberi Named Co-SEC Pitcher of Week
Two dominant appearances out of the bullpen last week earned Florida pitcher Jackson Barberi co-SEC Pitcher of the Week honors. the league office announced Monday.
With the Gators’ season seemingly on the ropes after getting swept in Tuscaloosa the previous weekend, Barberi and the Gators responded in a big way last week, going 4-0 against top-10 opponents.
The sophomore collected this honor alongside Texas right-hander Ruger Riojas.
Barberi’s week started Tuesday evening with the Gators playing then No. 10 Florida State in Jacksonville. He pitched the final three innings of that game, holding the Seminoles scoreless while striking out six batters and only allowing one hit to earn his second save of the season.
His strong pitching continued in Game 2 against the then-No. 4 Arkansas Razorbacks on the road, where Barberi took to the mound for 3.1 innings, holding the Razorbacks hitless to pick up his third win of the season.
This is the first SEC weekly honor in the right-hander’s young career, recording one win and one save, a perfect 0.00 ERA, and a .043 BAA on the week.
Barberi now sits at a 2.19 ERA over his 12 appearances, with a team-best 0.93 WHIP and .132 BAA for the season.
The Gators will look to ride the high of this unbeaten week heading into a busy week at Condron Family Ballpark, hosting the Jacksonville Dolphins Tuesday night before SEC foe Ole Miss comes to town Thursday for a three-game series.
