Buchholz Baseball Comes up Short vs. Georgia Visitor
The Buchholz Bobcats managed only one hit in seeing their three-game win streak come to a halt Monday at Bobcat Park.
Buchholz lost 3-0 to Valdosta Lowndes High School, ranked No. 3 in Georgia Class 6A and No. 10 overall.
BHS (11-7) found itself trailing to start the bottom of the first inning. Lowndes senior Jayden Daniels scored off a double from Tyler Parker to put the Vikings up 1-0.
The Vikings (17-5) scored their second run of the game in the fourth inning. Junior Heath Davis scored from second base off a hit from Dawkins Parker.
Lowndes senior Matthew Kerrigan hit a homer to center field to give the Vikings their final run in the seventh.
Buchholz struggled on the offensive side and only managed to get that one hit, a double, from third baseman Roen Kresak.
“We knew it was going to be a tough battle,” Buchholz coach Chris Malphurs said. “We can’t win if we have one hit.”
This is the first time this season the Bobcats have gone scoreless and the sixth time the Vikings have held a team scoreless.
“We just got beat by a good arm tonight,” Malphurs said. “We just got to turn the page. We have another game tomorrow, a big game on the road.”
The Bobcats, 2-0 in 6A-District 2, play at district opponent St. Augustine Tocoi Creek (11-9, 1-0) at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Buchholz will have Jacksonville University commit Aidan Kastensmidt (2-1, 1.91 ERA) back on the mound for Tuesday’s key matchup.
