Report: Miami’s Rueben Bain Jr. Involved in 2024 Fatal Crash
Ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft approaching, Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. remains a prominent name for teams in early evaluations. However, his off-the-field resume recently brought to light an alarming report that could affect his future in the NFL.
In 2024, Bain was driving a vehicle that was involved in a crash, resulting in the death of 22-year-old Destiny Betts. She suffered serious injuries and never emerged from a coma, resulting in her death three months later, according to a report from The Read Optional.
He was cited for careless driving and operating his vehicle in a negligent manner, according to police at the scene, though the incident was later dismissed. The situation has become part of the background evaluation process now that it has become public for multiple NFL teams.
Bain built his reputation at Miami through his consistent production and ability to impact the game as an influential pass rusher. During the 2025 season, he recorded 8.5 sacks, 42 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and an interception.
He was also named the 2025 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, a First-Team All-American and the Ted Hendricks Award winner. His performance earned him national recognition and positioned him among the top defensive prospects in the class.
With the draft closing in, multiple teams are reviewing the incident and still considering Bain as a productive, high-floor edge rusher, with many projecting him as a top-10 talent.
