Miller Shines as No. 7 Florida Softball Sweeps UCF
Pitcher Olivia Miller shined in her first start of the season in giving the Gators their second straight shutout win against UCF.
Just one day after a home win against the Knights (36-14-1), No. 7 Florida softball (45-7) sealed its 12th road win 7-0 in Orlando.
Cassidy McLellan brought in the first run of the game with her first career triple, bringing in Kenleigh Cahalan, who had hit a single.
Miller pitched a complete game, just one hit away from a perfect outing.
While Miller was keeping the Knights off the bases, freshman Townsen Thomas lit up in the visitors’ half of the third. Following three straight singles, Thomas hit a long ball to center, her first career grand slam.
Thomas wasn’t done then, getting her fifth RBI of the game with a bases-loaded fielder’s choice.
The Gators loaded the bases again in the fifth, but despite being loaded with no outs Florida left them loaded.
Florida tacked on another run in the sixth off a sac fly from McLellan, scoring Thomas who had reached on a bunt.
Miller sealed the win with her sixth three-up, three-down inning.
Florida returns home for a 7 p.m. game Tuesday (SEC Network) against No. 10 Florida State (42-7). FSU defeated UF 3-1 on Wednesday in Tallahassee.
