Jason Williams Responds to Florida-Texas Tech Super Regional Controversy
Former Gators point guard Jason Williams made it clear Tuesday where his loyalties now stand, and it’s not with Florida. Appearing on Barstool Sports’ “Wake Up Barstool,” Williams pushed back when host Big Cat called him a “Gator legend,” correcting him with a pointed two-word response: “Was, was.”
That rebuttal came days after Sunday’s super regional between Florida and Texas Tech, the team where his daughter, junior second baseman Mia Williams plays.
That series ended in controversy after a Florida fan allegedly struck Williams’ other daughter Nina Williams with a handheld fan in the series opener, and after the Gators opted not to shake hands with Texas Tech following Sunday’s 16-7 defeat in the finale.
After the series incidents, Williams said he’s ending his support for Florida athletics.
“The only time I’ll ever step foot on Gainesville’s campus again is if my daughter plays softball there again,” Williams said about separating the softball and basketball programs.

Before the current era of players transferring multiple times throughout their college careers, Williams took a chance on himself, following Billy Donovan from Marshall to Florida in 1996.
Williams sat out a year, then played in the 1997-98 season.
While appearing in 20 games, he started 17, averaging 17 points and 6 assists a game. He failed multiple drug tests, and his tenure with the Gators ended.
Williams then declared for the 1998 NBA Draft, where Sacramento selected Williams seventh overall. He eventually earned the nickname “White Chocolate” and began a 12-year NBA career, during which he won a championship with Miami.
To Williams, the message to his alma mater is clear.
“F— FLorida”, Williams said in an instagram comment following Sunday’s game.
