Jaguars Acquire Quinn Ewers from Dolphins Ahead of NFL Roster Cuts

The Jaguars’ quarterback room got deeper Saturday, one day out from final roster cuts.

Jacksonville traded for Quinn Ewers and sent a 2028 sixth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins in return. Ewers spent last season with Miami, but will now join Trevor Lawrence, Nick Mullens, Carter Bradley and Joey Aguilar.

Ewers played in just four games for the Dolphins last season, recording 622 passing yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. 

 Jacksonville eyes its depth at the position less than 24 hours out from the NFL roster cut deadline, when 1,184 players will be cut by Sunday at 6 p.m., including two of the Jags’ signal callers.

While Lawrence doesn’t have to worry about finding a new home this season, the backup and emergency QB slots are all but filled. Ewers’ presence makes the decision that much more difficult for coach Liam Coen and his staff as Jacksonville has plenty of talent at its disposal.

Ewers, 23, was taken with the 231st overall selection in the 2025 draft after three seasons with the Texas Longhorns. He tossed 68 touchdowns while in Austin and his 9,128 total passing yards are the third-most by a Texas quarterback in program history.

Aguilar, a rookie out of Tennessee, showed flashes during his first preseason showings, while Mullens is a seasoned veteran. The ninth-year man had sluggish exhibition performances and started all three contests despite posting just 127 total passing yards.

Bradley, a 26-year-old rookie, shone in Jacksonville’s 2026 debut. He led the club with 105 passing yards and nabbed a pair of touchdown passes — one in each of the Jags’ preseason victories.
