Florida Volleyball Looks to Extend Win Streak Against FAU

A week after Florida football took down Florida Atlantic in The Swamp, Florida volleyball looks to do the same across the street. 

It’s been a decade and a half since the Gators faced the Owls. Florida is 3-0 all-time against FAU and hopes to stay unbeaten in the 7 p.m. Friday match (Coverage on WRUF 98.1-FM at 6:45 p.m. and 7 p.m. on SEC Network+) at the O’Connell Center.

No. 10 Florida (5-1) is coming off a dominant performance against Miami at the “Showdown at the Net” ACC/SEC Challenge on Wednesday night in the O’Connell Center to make it three wins in a row. The Gators swept the Hurricanes (25-15, 25-19, 25-22) to add another complete performance to the books.

A big key to Florida’s success is outside hitter Kamryn Chaney who continues to lead the Gators in kills, adding 10 on Wednesday against Miami. In the back row, sophomore libero Lily Hayes is inching toward a record, sitting just 16 digs shy of her 500th career dig. 

Florida Atlantic (3-2), on the other hand, hasn’t seen much success recently. The Owls went across the state to Fort Myers last week for the Sunshine State Classic where it fell to both Florida Gulf Coast and West Virginia. 

With momentum rising for the Gators, they can use the Owls’ losing rut to their advantage. On both the offensive and defensive side, Florida has been a well-rounded powerhouse against their competitors.

Its execution on long rallies have been a difference maker in proving consistency, which has helped the Gators sweep their last three opponents.

FAU’s offense is powered by junior right side Sequoia Layne who has 40 kills on the season. The Owls hold a .223 hitting percentage, while the Gators hold the offensive edge at .264.

The Gators then face Troy at 1 p.m. Sunday to close the homestand. FAU and Troy will meet in the O-Dome at 2 p.m. Saturday and admission is free.
