Battle of Eagles: Christ’s Church Academy Visits Oak Hall
As lightning flashed at Oak Hall football practice this week, the Eagles patiently waited out the storm and not backing down as they prepared for their home game Friday.
The Jacksonville Christ’s Church Academy Eagles (5-1) and the Oak Hall Eagles (4-1) will go talon-to-talon at 7 p.m.
Oak Hall is coming off a win against P.K. Yonge in controlling fashion, 33-7, after its first loss of the season at Branford, 58-26, the week before.
These teams met last year when Oak Hall defeated Christ’s Church Academy in the second round of the Sunshine State Athletic Association 3A playoffs, 28-22.
That one-score win was without Christ’s Church Academy’s best player, Jaylin Robinson, and that is who Oak Hall coach R.J. Fuhr is focused on.
“We gotta stop the run,” Fuhr said. “No. 5 is really good.”
No. 5, Robinson, has 22 touchdowns this season.
He aids Christ’s Church’s offense, which averages 46 points per game. These Eagles have had only one game this season where they haven’t scored more than 30 points, and it resulted in their loss against the Paxton School for Advanced Studies, 31-29, on Aug. 28.
CCA counts Robinson on defense with 30 total tackles.
Oak Hall also has a dynamic offense, averaging 34 points per game. It is looking to evolve in the coming weeks with the addition of more plays from shotgun formation.
Ironically, Oak Hall first tried to implement this style against Christ’s Church last year.
“We’re trying to be aggressive upfront,” Fuhr said. “We’re trying to do some different stunts and stuff that can maybe help us.”
Oak Hall is preparing for a physical game.
“It’s going to be a tough game. We’re going to be having to bring our lunch for sure, because it’s going to be tough,” Fuhr said.
With such high-flying offenses, Friday’s matchup will show who will soar.
