Florida Swim & Dive Carries Season-Opening Momentum into Kentucky
People watching, fans screaming, nothing but a three-meter jump and a body of water to work with. If you’re a Florida Gators swimmer, this is where you live.
After securing dominant wins against FAU and Vanderbilt to open up their seasons, Gators men’s and women’s swim and dive are set for a dual meet against Kentucky.
Florida is coming off a big week behind senior diver Camyla Monroy, who provided a near picture-perfect three-meter dive against FAU. Monroy scored a 320.70, propelling her to the top of the podium.
Monroy wasn’t the only Gator to stand out. Florida’s spectacular freshman duo in Tai Pearson and Maddie Moreth performed when the lights got bright. The pair earned SEC Men’s and Women’s Freshman Swimmer of the Week.
Pearson gave the Gators 13 of their 232 points against FAU. The freshman got his first collegiate win with a time of 47.67 in the 100-meter fly and he finished up second place in the 200-meter fly with a time of 1:48.56.
Moreth contributed 18 points of her own against Vanderbilt, dominating the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke with times of 1:01.91 and 2:15.05.
Florida now travels to Lexington to take on an SEC foe in Kentucky. The Wildcats are opening their season against the Gators and in 2025-26 the men’s team placed 18th in nationals, their best since 2010, while the women’s team did not place.
The Wildcats had nine men represent them in nationals, out of those nine championship qualifiers, seven swimmers are returning. This includes Carson Hick, who scored points at the meet, placing eighth in the 1650-meter freestyle.
The Gators look to stay dominant starting Friday at 5 p.m.
