Florida Men’s Basketball Adds Two Four-Star Bigs to 2027 Class

October 7, 2026

All Todd Golden needed was eight days to lock down size, rim protection, versatility and the long-term identity of Florida’s frontcourt.

In rapid succession, Golden and the Gators secured verbal commitments from four-star prospects Ian Condon and Kamsi Awaka, locking in the foundational interior core for Florida’s 2027 recruiting class.

The additions of Awaka and Condon solidify the defining pillars of Florida’s system under Golden: unrelenting physicality and glass control. With senior anchors Rueben Chinyelu and Alex Condon approaching the end of their time with the Gators, securing their high school successors early guarantees the Gators won’t skip a beat once the frontcourt torch is passed.

The identity that Golden has established over the past few years is written all over the new additions. Instead of going to the transfer portal and paying steep NIL price tags to build their frontcourt, Golden and his staff have built a succession plan to mirror the two-man interior dynamic in Florida’s current success.

Awaka steps into an heir-apparent role to Chinyelu’s defensive presence as the No. 41 overall and No. 5 center in the 2027 class according to 247Sports. At 6-foot-10 and 250 pounds with a 7-foot-4 wingspan, the Blair Academy product already has an SEC-ready frame with the wingspan that will help him under the rim.

Awaka is described as a physically reliable motor that is willing to do the dirty work to impact winning. From day one with the Gators, he’s projected to make an impact as a rebounder, defender and screener.

Awaka is the younger brother of Chicago Bulls forward Tobe Awaka. In some ways, his game is similar to his brother’s, but he is a few inches taller than him. Awaka isn’t a natural scorer, but with the willingness to pass in his game and post target, he will fit the Gators’ dynamic big man style of game.

Complementing Awaka’s low-post presence is Condon, a four-star prospect, who announced his commitment to Florida on Sept. 29. Ranked No. 77 overall and No. 14 power forward in the 2027 class by 247Sports, Condon chose Florida over NC State, Georgia Tech and Boston College.

At 6-foot-7 and 220 pounds, Condon is a forward who has power and a high motor in his game, sprinting the floor on each possession. His game is built on sheer physicality, giving Golden a strong foundation to build on in Gainesville. With his versatility, Florida will be able to play the young forward at multiple positions.

“Florida’s just a super high-level program with an amazing winning culture, and they encourage player continuity,” Condon told  CBS Sports College Basketball after announcing his decision.
