No. 5 Florida volleyball entered Sunday’s match on an 11-match winning streak and coming off its best offensive performance since 2022.

However, the Gators struggled offensively against Vanderbilt, falling in four sets (20-25, 25-22, 23-25, 16-25) at Memorial Gymnasium.

The Commodores earned their first top-five victory in program history, improving to 13-2 overall and 4-2 in SEC play. Florida dropped to 13-2 and 4-1 in conference play, ending its longest winning streak since 2018.

The matchup featured Vanderbilt’s SEC-leading offense against Florida’s conference-leading defense. The Commodores entered hitting .311, while the Gators were holding opponents to a .158 hitting percentage.

After hitting .519 with just three attack errors against Missouri on Friday, Florida finished Sunday hitting .142 with 46 kills and 27 attack errors. Vanderbilt hit .252 with 52 kills.

Florida setter Taylor Parks led the Gators with a career-high 11 kills on .556 hitting and 30 assists. Alec Rothe added 10 kills and seven blocks, while Kamryn Chaney recorded 10 kills and 10 attack errors.

For Vanderbilt, Samantha Wunsch led all players with 15 kills. Kayla Dunlap added 11 kills on .529 hitting and seven blocks, while setter Avery Scoggins finished with 44 assists.

Vanderbilt took an early 4-1 lead in the opening set, capitalizing on several Florida mistakes.

Rothe helped keep the Gators close with four kills on four attempts, while a Logan King service ace briefly gave Florida a 14-13 lead.

However, Florida committed five service errors in the opening set. With the Gators trailing 21-20, Vanderbilt scored four consecutive points, including back-to-back kills from Dunlap, to win the set 25-20.

The Commodores continued their strong start in the second set, using a 5-0 scoring run to take a 7-3 lead.

Trailing 13-8, Florida responded with six straight points, including three consecutive blocks, to take a 14-13 advantage.

The teams traded points before Florida pulled ahead 23-20. Chaney, who transferred from Vanderbilt, delivered a kill to reach set point before a Wunsch attack error gave Florida the 25-22 victory.

Florida started the third set strong, building a 13-6 lead behind its blocking and offensive production from Chaney.

The Gators still led 18-14 following a Bella Lee service ace, but Vanderbilt went on a run to cut the deficit to one before tying the set at 20.

Chaney recorded a kill to tie the score at 23, but Dunlap responded with a kill before Scoggins secured the 25-23 Vanderbilt victory.

Despite recording more kills than Vanderbilt in the third set, 17-12, Florida committed four service errors and four attack errors.

Vanderbilt took control early in the fourth set, jumping ahead 5-1 before scoring seven consecutive points to extend its lead to 18-8.

Florida finished the final set hitting -.030 with eight kills and nine attack errors, while Vanderbilt hit .379. The Commodores secured the 25-16 victory on a final point awarded to them following an overturned challenge.
