How Does This Florida Volleyball Season Compare to Recent Years?

October 19, 2026

This year is already looking much different for No. 5 Florida volleyball. From 2016 to 2025, the team has maintained a record of 236-67. This season, it’s 15-2.

Comparing past seasons of records and rosters, there are some noticeable differences that may explain the success of this year’s group.

Ryan Theis is in his second year coaching at Florida. Last year’s season didn’t look too hot,  finishing 16-12, the Gators’ worst record in over three years. But he’s finding comfort.

Florida also added Kamryn Chaney, who has strengthened the Gators’ offense. Chaney is averaging 3.71 kills per set, including 22 kills against Kentucky. That was part of a week in which Florida beat both No. 11 Tennessee and No. 3 Kentucky. The team continued winning against Missouri, Texas A&M and Texas, having only lost just one game since August, that being to Vanderbilt last week.

There were also some other transfers. Logan King joined from Long Beach State. The Gators also took in Selena Leban from Kansas who has added physical presence at the net. Leban has tallied 85 kills and 13 service aces.

Prior to their loss to Vanderbilt, the Gators rattled off 11 consecutive wins, their second consecutive season in which they managed a double-digit win streak.  The difference: this fall’s was their longest streak since 2017, when they rattled off 16 in a row.

Florida is now No. 5 in the country, moving up two spots from last week.  That’s already 20 spots higher than their final slotting at No. 25 last season.

But this is just the beginning for the Gators. The team has totaled nine sweeps, so if it continues to keep winning in three sets, it could continue on its current trajectory. Its also undefeated at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center, remaining 7-0. The Gators’ only undefeated home campaign in the past decade came in 2017. Granted, another month remains on the schedule, but a strong finish could cement this fall as a historic one for Florida.
