Gators Baseball Provides Home Look Against Ontario Blue Jays
After the gut-wrenching end to the 2026 season at Condron Family Ballpark, Gators baseball returns to play in front of its home crowd Wednesday for the first time since that June failure. This time, it’s an exhibition game against the Ontario Blue Jays.
Ontario is an amateur team playing in its ninth game in 10 days. The Blue Jays travel to Gainesville as part of their 11-game fall trip as they play collegiate teams around the country.
The 5:30 p.m. matchup today marks the third fall exhibition for the Gators after going 2-0 on the road. First, the Gators took a 10-6 win against South Florida in Tampa on Oct. 16 before a 15-5 win against Troy, which eliminated the Gators in that 2026 NCAA Regional, in front of 4,181 fans at Pensacola’s Blue Wahoos Stadium on Saturday.
In the 10-6 win against USF, the Gators trailed USF 4-3 in the second inning. However, Florida quickly responded by scoring seven unanswered. The Gators slugged five home runs, with third baseman Ethan Surowiec and right fielder Drew Dickerson each hitting two and one added off the bat of two-way player Caden McDonald.
Gators pitching was led by starter Aidan King, who tossed a scoreless frame in the first inning. He was followed by five other Gators pitchers who did not allow a run.
In Pensacola, the Gators found revenge against Troy, 15-5. After falling behind 1-0, the Gators exploded with 14 runs against the Trojans. Shortstop Brendan Lawson, designated hitter Nic Partridge and infielder Colton Schwarz each hit a home run, while Surowiec tallied three hits and three RBIs.
King received the nod for his second straight start, striking out four and allowing one run through two innings. In this 11-inning contest, four Florida relievers put up scoreless outings.
Florida has homered eight times and scored 25 runs in the two exhibitions.
The Gators also host Mercer at 2 p.m. Sunday and close against Air Force starting at 11 a.m. Nov. 8.
The exhibition games at Condron Family Ballpark are free to attend, with Gates 1 and 3 opening one hour prior to first pitch. Seating is available only on the main concourse level and grass berms in addition to standing room in the Dizney Grove on a first-come, first-served basis.
