Clippers Look for Two-Game Lead

September 9, 2020

The Los Angeles Clippers look to go up 3-1 lead against the Denver Nuggets tonight in game four of the Western Conference semifinals.

Clippers Lead Series

Los Angeles holds a 2-1 lead over Denver heading into game four. The Clippers took game three with a 113-107 score against the Nuggets on Monday night. Paul George helped lead the charge for LA with 32 points, four assists and four rebounds. Kawhi Leonard also put up an impressive 23 points, six assists and 14 rebounds. Leonard said he understands his job is to support the team and wants his stats to reflect that.

The Clippers were able to outlast the Nuggets in game one, holding Denver to under 100 points. A first-quarter beat down by the Nuggets in game two caused the Clippers to fall short.

Nuggets Look to Tie

Denver faces an uphill climb in tonight’s game as they try to even out the series once again. In game three, the Nuggets were unable to outlast the Clippers, relinquishing the four-point lead they entered the final quarter with.

Center Nikola Jokic carried the Nuggets with 32 points, eight assists and 12 rebounds. Guard Jamal Murray put up 14 points, nine assists and four rebounds. Murray described game three’s loss as a missed opportunity for the Nuggets. He knows himself, and the entire team needs to step up to win game four.

Game Four

The key for the Nuggets tonight will be to hold both Leonard and George on the defensive side of the ball. The two combined for 55 of the 113 points the Clippers scored in game three. Jamal Murray will also have to step up on offense to complement the hot hand of Jokic. For the Clippers, Leonard and George need to stay hot on offense. On defense, the team needs to be able to control Jokic.

A win for the Clippers means a 3-1 lead, putting them one win away from a trip to the Western Conference Finals. This would be their first trip to the conference finals ever. A win for the Nuggets means an even series and a guaranteed game six.

Game four will commence Wednesday night at 9 p.m.
