Florida State Football Tries To Rebound From Tough Loss
On Saturday, ninth ranked Florida State attempted a 56-yard field goal to break a 16-16 tie with unranked Georgia Tech with six seconds left on the clock. With one of the best kickers in the country in Roberto Aguayo, the Seminoles stood a real chance of winning the game in regulation and avoiding
overtime. The game would never make it to overtime, but in a turn of events few could have predicted. The kick was blocked, recovered by Georgia Tech’s Lance Austin and returned 78-yards for a touchdown in what Georgia Tech announcer Brandon Gaudin would dub “The miracle on Techwood Drive.” Florida State now finds itself ranked 17th in the AP Poll with hopes for another national championship just about shattered. Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher blames inconsistent execution for the loss. The offense was particularly unimpressive for the Seminoles, as they only had one touchdown drive all night that was a length of just two yards. Fisher states that the team must remember the mistakes that cost them the game, but not lose focus on the games ahead. Though the chances are slim, Florida State could force itself back into the playoff conversation by beating third ranked Clemson on November 7th and the 11th ranked Florida Gators in the final game of the season. The Seminoles try to get back on track Saturday as they take on Syracuse.
