After losing their season opener to Temple (4-4) on the road, the Florida Gator Women’s basketball team has bounced back in a big way rattling off seven consecutive wins. In order to extend the winning streak to eight games, the Gators will have to gain a road victory from the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin Thursday night.
The Gators will be hoping to get another big performance from junior forward Ronni Williams, who has four double-doubles this season. A key for Williams, who is averaging 13 points and almost eight rebounds a game, will be her ability to stay on the court. She has fouled out of three games already this year, after having fouled out of two all of last season. Williams fouled out of a program-record 16 games in the 2013-14 season.
Defensively the Gators will be looking to limit Wisconsin’s outside shooting, led by senior guard Nicole Bauman. Bauman is averaging 15.4 points a game this year, and she set the UW single-season record for 3 point percentage as a junior (.488). Bauman is coming off a solid performance in her team’s loss to Marquette, where she scored 18 points and shot four of eight from behind the arch.
The game will be the last of a five-game stretch for the Gators where four of the outings have been away from Gainesville. For the Badgers, this will be the first home game since November 18th, having embarked on a five-game road trip themselves.
Wisconsin has won all three prior match-ups against Florida, including last year’s 51-48 victory in the O’Dome.
Coverage of the game can be heard on ESPN Gainesville 95.3 starting at 7:50 p.m. Tip-off from the Kohl Center in Madison Wisconsin is set for 8 p.m.
