Every game on a schedule matters, especially when it comes to SEC softball. The Southeastern Conference has proven to be especially competitive this season, with eight teams ranking in the D1Softball.com Top 25 standings for week nine.

While teams continue to battle it out for the top spot in SEC softball, here is a look at teams dominating the standings in the conference.

Series in progress: Alabama Crimson Tide vs Florida Gators

Although still in progress, the No. 4 Crimson Tide captured the series against No. 6 Florida on Sunday after adding a run in extra innings for a 2-1 victory. Now, Alabama looks to secure a sweep in the series finale on Monday night.

On the other hand, the Florida softball team has struggled after falling to FSU in a midweek matchup. While the Gators are fighting to get back in the win column, Florida currently posts a 30-9 overall record on the season and is 7-7 in conference play.

So far this season, Alabama holds an overall record of 33-5 and is 10-4 in conference play. The Gators look to avoid a sweep by Alabama in the final matchup of the three-game series.

Arkansas Razorbacks vs Auburn Tigers

For the first time this season, the No. 17 Auburn Tigers were swept in a three-game series. The loss comes at the hands of the No. 9 Arkansas Razorbacks, who run ruled the Tigers to come out with a commanding 17-4 victory in five innings on Sunday. Arkansas cruised to its fifth-straight conference series win and remains on top of the SEC.

Sunday afternoon was also a record-breaking day for senior Hannah McEwen who became Arkansas’ all-time runs scored leader with 185.

In addition, the Razorbacks’ 17 RBIs tied for the second most in a single game in program history. The Hogs are now 28-7 on the season and improve to 9-3 in SEC play. Meanwhile, the Tigers fall to 29-9 and 7-8 in conference play this season.

Up next, Arkansas will host SEMO for a doubleheader on Tuesday and Auburn hits the road to take on Mercer on Wednesday.

Kentucky Wildcats vs Ole Miss Rebels

The Ole Miss Rebels fell to No. 8 Kentucky in both matchups of its doubleheader on Sunday. On the other hand, the Wildcats earned their third-straight SEC series win to improve to 27-9 on the year and 8-4 in conference play.

Looking ahead, Kentucky will travel west to battle it out against Louisville on Tuesday. The Rebels will hit the road as well as they will go head-to-head with Florida for a three-game series beginning on Thursday.

Georgia Bulldogs vs Tennessee Volunteers

The No. 15 Bulldogs have been on an impressive run this season, leading the SEC in team batting and averaging .341. In Sunday’s series-clinching 12-4 run-rule victory over No. 12 Tennessee, Georgia senior Lacey Fincher and Sydney Kuma each hit two homers and combined for seven RBI.

Despite jumping out to an early lead thanks to a leadoff bomb by KiKi Milloy, the Lady Volunteers could not hold off the Bulldogs who responded with back-to-back homers to gain a 3-1 lead in the first.

The staggering victory was the Bulldog’s third series victory over four weeks of SEC play and improves Georgia to 33-8 on the year and 7-5 in the conference.

Tennessee will look finish its four-game road swing with a trip to Western Carolina for a midweek matchup on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will be back in action for a three-game series at Missouri that begins on Thursday.

Mississippi State Bulldogs vs Mizzou Tigers

The No. 24 Mizzou Tigers avoided a sweep by Mississippi State with a 8-5 victory on Sunday. The win came after 8 innings including redshirt-sophomore Gabi Deters crushing a two-run homer to give Mizzou the lead.

Deters posts three home runs on the season and went 2-for-4 in what was her first multi-hit game as a Tiger. Sophomore Jenna Laird then sealed the win for the Tigers with an inside-the-park home run in the eighth.

In addition, Mizzou has homered three or more times in a game ten times this season.

Moving forward, Mizzou heads home to host Georgia for a three-game series. Mississippi State will also remain in conference play as the Bulldogs travel to face No. 4 Alabama for a three-game series beginning on Thursday.

Looking ahead to the SEC softball tournament

The 2022 SEC Tournament will begin on Tuesday, May 10, and conclude with the championship game on Saturday, May 14. The 13 teams participating will follow a single-elimination format with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

All of the action will take place at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Florida. The event will be the first time since 2005 that the Gators will host the tournament.
