Tampa Bay Lightning Defeat New York Rangers in Thrilling Game 5 Win

The Tampa Bay Lightning took Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals after defeating the New York Rangers 3-1 Thursday. The Bolts are now one win away from advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals after winning in two consecutive years. They hold a 3-2 series lead heading into Game 5 on Saturday.

Bolts Take Game 5

After a tie game going into the third period, the Tampa Bay Lightning pulled away late to take a 3-1 victory on the road against the New York Rangers. Mikhail Sergachev led the Bolts with a goal and late assist to help seal the win.

The Rangers leaped out to a 1-0 lead just past the midway point of the second period. Ryan Lindgren scored the goal for New York.

The lead was held for just seven minutes as the Lightning responded with a goal late in the second period to tie the game. Sergachev hit the wrist shot to score the first goal for the Bolts.

With the game tied and under two minutes left in the third period, the Lightning scored the go-ahead goal behind Ondrej Palat. Mikhail Sergachev and Victor Hedman assisted Palat to pull the Bolts ahead 2-1.

Brandon Hagel then iced the game for the Lightning, scoring an empty-net goal inside the final minute of the third period. Tampa Bay took the victory and a 3-2 series lead as they head home for Game 6.

Looking Ahead

The Lightning now sits just one win away from another Stanley Cup Finals appearance. This would be their third appearance in three straight years after winning the title in two consecutive seasons.

The Bolts hold a 3-2 series lead over the Rangers as they head back to Tampa Bay for Game 6. Puck drop is set for Saturday at 8 p.m.
