Gators Baseball on Longest Winning Streak Since 2020

March 5, 2026

Florida Gators baseball has hit its stride, reaching its longest win streak in nearly six years.

Following a disappointing 9-7 loss to UAB in their season opener, the Gators have rattled off 13 wins in a row, good for the longest win streak in the country and the program’s longest since 2020.

That year, the Gators began 16-0 and climbed to the No. 1 rank in D1 Baseball following an impressive sweep of then-No. 1 Miami. They would finally suffer their first loss in an unfortunate 2-0 showing to No. 15 Florida State on March 10. That Florida State loss would be the last game the Gators played that season, with the remainder of competition being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This season’s team has statistically been out-producing 2020’s team. This year’s squad boasts a higher batting average (.330 to .285), OPS (.965 to .833) and slugging % (.539 to .447). These higher statistics work to score today’s team an impressive 9.36 runs per game to 2020’s 7.24, emphasizing the offensive firepower the team brings to the table.

In 2020, Jacob Young led the Gators with a .450 batting average through 17 games, with no other player surpassing a .333 clip. However, this year’s team includes five Gators surpassing that mark, with Brendan Lawson leading the pack with a .432 average and five home runs. On his heels is Kyle Jones, who leads the team with eight doubles and 23 hits in total while slicing .426.

The 2020 team’s pitching staff maintains a slight advantage, finishing with a 2.41 ERA and 1.064 walks plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP), outdoing 2026’s 3.27 ERA and 1.19 WHIP.

Despite the statistical advantage on offense, the 2026 Gators sit at No. 9 in the D1 Baseball rankings, trailing behind the 2020 team’s No. 1 spot. This disparity is in large part due to the mystery of the new season, with the Gators yet to play an established title contender like LSU or Mississippi State. A two-game sweep at a ranked Miami team was a good start, but it doesn’t match Florida’s 3-0 sweep against the first-ranked Hurricanes six years ago.

Florida has won weekend series against UAB, Kennesaw State and then-No. 17 Miami. Perhaps the team’s biggest challenge yet comes Tuesday, when No. 20 Florida State is set to visit Condron.

Later this season, the Gators will have opportunities to prove themselves in top-10 matchups against No. 2 LSU, No. 6 Arkansas and No. 7 Auburn, with an array of other ranked series along the way.

The Gators (13-1) host High Point (7-6) this weekend before opening SEC play March 13 at home against South Carolina. UF plays at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Coverage on 98.1-FM/850-AM WRUF is five minutes before each game and game time on SEC Network+.
