Florida Baseball Looks To Build Off Statement Week Against Jacksonville
Florida baseball looks to stay hot today with the Jacksonville Dolphins coming to town.
The Gators are coming off their strongest week of the season, beating then-No. 10 Florida State in the midweek game before sweeping then-No. 4 Arkansas in Fayetteville. The 4-0 week jumped Florida back into the rankings, sitting at No. 21 in D1baseball’s poll Monday.
Florida’s pitching proved to be the catalyst for the team’s stretch. Sophomore Jackson Barberi led the way, as his play earned him Co-SEC Pitcher of the Week. The Gator offense has been able to back up the defense, scoring 23 runs over the weekend in Fayetteville.
The Dolphins (12-16), losers of five of the last six games, are headed in the opposite direction, getting swept over the weekend by conference rival North Florida.
This marks the 11th straight season that these two squads will meet, with the Gators going 18-5 over the last decade against the Dolphins.
Tuesday’s game will be the 106th all-time meeting between the programs in a rivalry that dates back to 1963, with the Gators leading the series 69-36.
Florida sits at a perfect 9-0 in midweek games this season and is riding its third win streak of four or more games this season.
First pitch today is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network+ from Condron Family Ballpark and radio coverage on 98.1-FM/850-AM WRUF starts at 6:25 p.m.
The Gators are scheduled to start right-hander Schuyler Sandford (1-0, 3.00 ERA), while JU goes with lefty Kyle Powers (0-0, 7.31).
