The Gator football team starts preparation today for this weekend’s big SEC opener at Texas A&M in the first ever SEC contest for the Aggie program. ESPN’s College Game Day will also be on hand.
Gator coach Will Muschamp said after Saturday’s lackluster win over Bowling Green that he and offensive coordinator Brent Pease would talk Sunday to decide if a starting quarterback will be named for the game.
Muschamp was true to his word about the QB situation for the opener as Jeff Driskel played the first quarter, Jacoby Brissett most of the second and after evaluation at halftime Driskel was the one chosen to finish the game. Many believe Driskel will be named the starter for this weekend’s game.
Florida has other worries other than the quarterback spot if it wants to win in College Station. Florida committed 14 penalties in the game, and it did not have a lot of success in third and short situations in the Bowling Green game although Muschamp said he was being stubborn trying to run the ball against eight man fronts because he wants to establish some run toughness with his team.
Texas A&M will open the season against Florida after having its opening game postponed due to a hurricane.
