The Florida soccer team tries for an SEC championship tonight when it plays its final regular season game of the year at South Carolina. Florida had a nine game winning streak snapped last Friday by Alabama and Gator head coach Becky Burleigh says the team’s loss was an eye opener.
After the Alabama loss, the Gators bounced back with a 4-0 win over Vanderbilt setting up tonight’s game. The rare Thursday game gave the Gators just one day to practice for Carolina and Burleigh says this left them with a lot to accomplish in practice on Tuesday.
Florida has suffered multiple injuries on its defense including starter and redshirt senior Kat Williamson. Abbie Bobbitt stepped up as a starter and is now out with a knee sprain. Burleigh says the team needs somebody to step up once again to fill the position.
Burleigh says tonight’s game should be exciting with so much on the line for her team and because of the rivalry that has developed with Carolina over the past several seasons.
