The Florida Gator swim teams take to the pool Saturday to face SEC rival Tennessee, coming off wins over Auburn.
The men had a comfortable win beating Auburn 158-142. However, the women’s team didn’t have an easy time pulling ahead of the Tigers but succeeded in the end, winning 152-148.
Neither the men nor the women started off the meet looking great. Neither team was able to secure a win in the 200 yard medley relay, the first event, but managed to score points with the men taking second and the women taking third.
However, the teams came back with wins in almost all of the freestyle events. Junior Jessica Thielmann took back to back first place finishes in the 1,000 free and 200 free and then snagged another win later in the 500 free.
For the men, freshman Caeleb Dressel took first in the 50 free and 100 free sprints.
“What we do feel very good about, everything was directed towards this point in the year. We’ve gotten significantly better since our first meet in January. So in the last two weeks we’ve seen some significant improvements. We need to see that same type of thing over the next two weeks,” said Gator coach Gregg Troy.
The meet against Tennessee is Florida’s last dual meet of the year. The meet is set to start at 11 am.
