The Florida Gator softball team is now 6-0 on the season after beating Jacksonville University 16-1 Wednesday on the road. It is the second time this year that Florida has beaten the Dolphins.
The number one ranked Gators jumped ahead with a nine run second inning. Senior outfielder Bailey Castro got Florida’s momentum going with a leadoff home run to left field in the second inning. Teammates Taylore Fuller, Kayli Kvistad, and Taylor Schwarz also contributed to the substantial lead early on in the ball game.
The Orange and Blue held a 15-0 lead until the bottom of the fourth when freshman Aleshia Ocasio replaced senior Lauren Haeger (3-0) in the circle. Jacksonville earned a solo home run to finally put their team on the scoreboard.
Delanie Gourley entered the ball game and ended it with three straight strikeouts to finish the win for UF.
Florida will have its home opener this weekend in a tournament when it hosts Iowa and North Carolina State on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s game starts at 6 pm.
