Swanson was 1-for-16 in the series, but he forgot alla bout that with his bases-loaded walk-off hit. The sweep of San Diego brings Atlanta to a 6-6 record and are one game back from first place. This was the first sweep of the Padres since May of 2003.
The Padres jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Atlanta’s starting pitcher Jaime Garcia. That was until Freddie Freeman stepped up and led the team going 4-for-4 with two home runs, two doubles and three RBIs. The Padres regained the lead in the 8th after a two-run homer from Austin Hedges put them up 4-3.
Freeman’s second homer of the day evened the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the 8th. Jim Johnson pitched a scoreless ninth inning and earned the win for the Braves.
Next up, the Atlanta Braves will host a three-game series with the Washington Nationals starting tonight. First pitch from Sun Trust Park is set for 7:35 p.m.
