Marlins Fall Short
The Marlins faced the reigning National League West champions for their first series of the season. Surely, this series proved to be a good test for them. Miami kept it close Friday in a nail-biter that ended in a 6-5 walk-off win for the Giants in 10 innings. Crucially, Austin Slater delivered a huge double for the Giants in the bottom of the tenth inning with two outs to secure the win. But, the Marlins bounced back in Saturday’s game securing the win, 2-1 thanks to the Marlins bullpen. The bullpen worked four scoreless innings after Pablo López’s 2022 debut.
The Marlins got the bats going in Sunday’s game producing 11 hits, but stranded eight base runners and went 0-7 with runners in scoring position. The Giants took the final game of the series 8-4.
Jorge Soler
Early in March, the franchise acquired Jorge Soler on a three-year, $36 million contract. Soler won World Series MVP with the Braves in 2021 after hitting .300 with three home runs and six RBIs in the series.
Soler began his career with Miami going hitless in seven at-bats. But, he then reached base in six straight plate appearances with three walks and three hits. Soler showed off his defensive skills during Sunday’s game. In the bottom of the 5th inning, Soler robbed Darin Ruff of a hit with this leaping grab over the wall.
