49ers Beat the Rams 24-9 in a Defensive Feat

The 49ers beat the Rams in a 24-9 in a defensive feat at home Monday night, with a stand-out performance from Deebo Samuel.

It was all about Deebo Samuel and the defense from whistle to whistle. Jimmy Garoppolo The defense successfully kept Matt Stafford and the Rams out of the endzone, forcing them to kick three field goals, with no touchdown drives.

The Defense

The 49ers defense had an impressive seven sacks on Rams QB Matthew Stafford Monday night, two of those coming from Ohio State’s, Nick Bosa. Bosa now leads the NFL in sacks this season having a total of six.

Not only did the niners defense keep the Rams out of the endzone, it scored six points on them. In the fourth quarter, 49ers safety, Talanoa Hufanga, returned an interception for a  57-yard touchdown, leaving the Rams at a 15-point deficit with just over six minutes left in the game. Of the last six regular-season meetings between these teams, this is the niners fourth pick-six.

In the second quarter, Samuel showed off his speed by turning a short catch into a 57-yard touchdown to put the niners up 14-6 right before halftime. Deebo’s most notable play was when he turned what looked like an interception by Garoppolo into a touchdown. The stand out player has six receptions for 115 yards averaging over 19 yards per catch.

“I just go out and break some tackles like I do all the time,” he said.

After swapping jerseys with Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp during post-game, Samuel said, “You can see it week in and week out with Cooper Kupp, his efficiency with getting open and he also got great hands…so kudos to Coop.”

McVay’s disappointment

LA rams head coach Sean McVay expressed his feelings towards the loss.

“The story of the night from an offensive perspective was self-inflicted wounds,” McVay said. “Just above the neck errors where we’re not doing the things that we are capable of and I expect us to be better than that.”
