AL and NL Playoff Match-Ups Set

With just one day remaining in the regular season, the MLB playoff match-ups are set for the AL and NL divisions. In the American League Wild Card, the Rays will face the Guardians and the Mariners go up against the Blue Jays. In the National League Wild Card, the Phillies meet the Cardinals and the Mets take on the Padres.

Starting in the AL, the divisional winners all come as no surprise. The Yankees took the AL East leading nearly wire to wire and lock down the second seed. In this year’s system that gives them a first round bye.

The Cleveland Guardians find themselves back in the post season after winning 91 games and running away with the Al Central by 10 games.

In the AL West, the Astros remain the big dogs and totaled 105 wins. This was good enough for the best record in the AL and second best in the league as a whole. They are the one seed and get a bye in the wild card round.

In the wild card race, it has been a three team battle for three spots for about a month. The Blue Jays finished first tallying 91 wins. They get home field and take on the second wild card Seattle Mariners.

The wild card round begins Friday and is best of five. The final wild card spot went to the Tampa Bay Rays. They head to Cleveland to take on the Guardians.

Starting in the NL West, the Dodgers are playing unreal ball. They total 110 wins, good for the best in the league. They get a wild card round bye and the one seed.

In the NL East, the Braves locked the division down Tuesday night. They settle in the two-seed spot and get a wild card round bye as well.

The St. Loius Cardinals ran away with a weaker NL East division. They totaled 93 wins and will be involved in wild card round play.

The New York Mets head the three wild card teams in the NL. After losing their division to the Braves in heart breaking fashion, they become the league’s only 100-win wild card team. They host the Padres beginning Friday.

The Padres grabbed the second wild card fending off the hard charging Phillies.

The Phillies still made the post season in the third and final wild card spot. They will head to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals.
