Chiefs stun Raiders at home

Despite a controversial roughing the passer call in the second quarter of Monday’s Chiefs and Raiders game, Kansas City walked out of Arrowhead unscathed after a 30-29 nail biter.

Las Vegas led 24-10 at the half, but Patrick Mahomes’ four touchdown passes to Travis Kelce gave the Chiefs the win and Mahomes the league lead in passing touchdowns.

Huh?

Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones strip sacked Raiders quarterback Derek Carr near the end of the second quarter. A capacity crowd at Arrowhead Stadium saw those pesky yellow flags fly out almost immediately.

“Personal foul. Roughing the passer.”

The crowd was livid, and referee Carl Cheffers’ voice was soon drowned out by boos.

Cheffers later said he threw the flag because Jones landed on Carr with his full body weight. After the game Jones adamantly expressed that roughing the passer should be reviewable.

Mama! There goes that man!

Mahomes is still a terror to opposing defenses.

The Chiefs erased a 14-point Las Vegas lead to win the game by one point, and Mahomes took the passing touchdowns lead. Kelce caught all four of Mahomes’ touchdown throws. The Chiefs dynamo quarterback finished with 292 passing yards. Surprisingly, despite the touchdown sombrero, Kelce only accounted for 25 of them.

Carr was no slouch either. On third down and six, he threw an absolute bomb to Davante Adams to give the Raiders a chance to take the lead with under five minutes to go. But in the proverbial game of inches, Josh Jacobs was stopped just short on the two-point conversion. He finished with 154 yards and a touchdown.

Clash of the Titans

Sunday, the Chiefs will host Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in a rematch of last year’s AFC Divisional matchup.

The two quarterbacks currently hold first and second place on the passing touchdown leaderboard, and their teams will fight for first place in the AFC.

On the other hand, the Raiders have a bye week, giving them a chance to lick their wounds before facing the Texans on Oct. 23.
