The Los Angeles Dodgers are heavily favored against their in-state division rivals, the San Diego Padres. These teams met 19 times during the regular season; the Dodgers dominated the series 14-5 and out scored them more than double 109-47 runs.
Dodgers Have a Heavy Advantage
Not only are the Dodgers playing at home for the entire series, but they are coming off of a bye for the first round. They earned a bye for being one of two teams to finish at the top of their division. This gives them the upper hand because it allows them to have the line up they want.
The Dodgers are also coming off of fove whole days of rest and in comparison to the Padres’ one. San Diego is at a disadvantage because they just traveled from New York after their series with the Mets.
Julio Urías will be starting at the pitchers mound for the Dodgers Tuesday. Urías has made four starts against the Padres this season forcing 18 strikeouts and 10 walks across 24 total innings. The Dodgers have proven to be the overall better team this season and are expected to win Game 1.
“We feel good where we’re at,” Dodgers manager, Dave Roberts said.
Step Up San Diego
Pressure is on for Mike Clevinger who will start on the mound Tuesday for the Padres despite being eaten alive by the Dodgers offense in his four starts against them in the regular season. Clevinger has not looked great against the Dodgers this season. He allowed five homeruns across four starts, in just 14 innings.
Some say that having Clevenger open up the series for the Padres means practically surrendering the first game completely. This all goes back to emphasize the advantage of the Dodgers’ bye last week. Though Clevinger is on the back half of the pitching rotation, he is the next man up, so he has no option but to step up for San Diego Tuesday.
They didn’t think we’d be here without Tatis.
We want the Dodgers.
