Buchholz Bobcats are Finals Bound After 54-33 Win Over Crestview

The Buchholz Bobcats took down the Crestview Bulldogs to advance to the regional final with standout performances from Creed Whittemore and Quinton Cutler.

The air at Citizens Field was cold but the Bobcats came in hot, taking a 6-0 lead after a Cutler touchdown early in the first quarter. The Bulldogs offense struck back, scoring a touchdown of their own and going up 7-6. This lead did not last long. Whittemore led the Bobcats down the field and marched into the end zone himself to reclaim a 13-7 lead to close out the first quarter.

Buchholz Finds a Rhythm

The offensive back-and-forth continued into the second quarter with a Bulldogs touchdown connection between Jerome Brazan and Tristin Wells to put Crestview ahead at 14-13. On Buchholz’s next possession, Cutler broke away for a 64-yard score, and the lead changed for the fifth time putting the Bobcats on top 20-14.

Buchholz’s momentum continued to build after Whittemore picked off Brazan and then connected with Jacarree Kelly for another Bobcats touchdown bringing the score to 26-14. Following this, the Bulldogs fumbled the kickoff and Buchholz recovered it. This set up Whittemore to carry the ball into the end zone himself on the following play.

The Bobcats marched into the locker room with a comfortable 33-14 lead.

To open the second half, Buchholz’s defense quickly shutdown the Bulldogs after Whittemore intercepted his second pass of the night. This set up Quinton Cutler’s third touchdown of the night and gave the Bobcats a 40-14 lead midway through the third quarter.

On the following possession, Crestview marched down the field for a Jason Jones rushing touchdown but the Bobcats still led 40-21. The Bulldogs successfully converted on their onside kick attempt, but this momentum did not last long. During the drive, Donny Hiebert was able to recover a Crestview fumble, setting the Bobcats up at their own 45-yard line. This drive ended with Cutler making his way into the end zone for the fourth time, extending Buchholz’s lead to 47-21.

Bobcats Beatdown

The Bulldogs were able to put six more points on the board after a Brazan rushing touchdown. The Bobcats did not score on their next possession, while Whittemore was a force to be reckoned with on both sides of the ball as he intercepted his third pass of the night.

Following this, the Bobcats scored their final touchdown of the night brining their point total to 54 while Crestview trailed with just 27. The Bulldogs were able to put another touchdown on the board before the clock expired bringing the final score to 54-33.

Both Whittemore and Cutler played key roles in this victory. Cutler finished the night with four total touchdowns while Whittemore finished with five touchdowns and three interceptions.

This dominant win will carry the Bobcats to the regional final where they will face Bartram Trail.
