Texas A&M Set to Host Tennessee

The second and third place teams in the SEC are set to face off in college hoops Tuesday. Tennessee travels to College Station to take on Texas A&M at 6 p.m. The game is the first matchup between the sides this season and could prove impactful in the final SEC standings. The teams are locked together at a 20-7 overall record, but Texas A&M’s 12-2 conference record keeps them ahead of the Volunteers at the moment.

The Volunteers currently sit at No. 11 nationally, even after a rough stretch. In January, the Vols were ranked in the Top 3 before dropping four of its last six games.

On the other hand, big wins against No. 8 Texas and No. 2 Alabama have kept them in the mix. Tennessee has struggled against SEC opponents recently, suffering losses to Florida and Missouri. The Vols’ 20-7 overall record coupled with some impressive wins should be enough to punch their ticket with an at-large bid.

In its last game, Tennessee suffered a 66-54 loss against Kentucky on Saturday. Guard duo Santiago Vescovi and Jahmai Mashack scored a combined 33 points in the game, but the team struggled offensively, shooting just 37% from the field and 22% from beyond the arc. If Tennessee continues to shoot this poorly, they’ll have a tough time competing for a conference and national title in March.

The Aggies

Texas A&M currently sits in second place in the SEC and No. 25 nationally. The Aggies are currently on a five game win streak and have looked dangerous. Guards Tyrece Radford and Wade Taylor IV have had solid seasons for the Aggies, averaging 13.4 points and 15.6 points respectively.

In its last game, the Aggies took down Missouri 69-60. Taylor IV and Dexter Dennis scored a combined 38 points for Texas A&M. Alabama is the only clear obstacle to the Aggies’ SEC success. The team should be able to notch an at-large bid with its nationally ranked standing either way.
