Trinity Thomas Claims WCGA Region 6 Gymnast of the Year

The Florida Gators gymnastics squad has been a top program in the nation over the past couple years. The Gators have won the SEC championship in both of the last two years. Florida finished second in the NCAA championships in 2022 and are looking to win it all this year. Much of this recent success can be attributed to the efforts of graduate student, Trinity Thomas.

Dominating the Competition

For years, Thomas has dominated college gymnastics. Thomas was named the 2019 SEC vault champion / 2022 SEC all-around, vault & floor champion / 2023 SEC all-around, bars and floor champion. Thomas has also been named to any SEC recognition you can think of, including SEC gymnast of the year for 2020, 2022 and 2023. She has also scored a perfect 10.0 in all events (Vault four times, bars five times, beam six times and floor 12 times). Despite these accolades, her legendary college career isn’t over yet.

Another Honor for Thomas

Thomas was named the WCGA Region 6 Gymnast of the Year on Monday. This marks her third WCGA regional gymnast of the year award and came after the Gators’ advancement to the NCAA Championships semifinal. Thomas led the Gators to a 24-3 record this season, currently putting them at No. 3 in the nation. Florida has high hopes for the semifinal this season, hoping to take home the championship after placing second last season.

Thomas’s accolades may still be rolling in. Trinity is also a finalist for the AAI Award, awarded to a single division 1 senior gymnast.

Championship in Sight

After the Gators’ 197.80-197.475 win against Arizona State on Sunday, Florida qualified for the NCAA Championships semifinal. Although the Gators won, a main story of the meet was the injury to Trinity Thomas. Thomas is listed as day-to-day. The team has hope for her to compete in the semifinal. The Gators will head to Texas on April 13 to compete in the competition.
