Boston Bruins Break Record for Single-Season NHL Wins

The Boston Bruins set a new standard in the NHL with their 63rd win of the regular season.

Record

The Bruins set the NHL record for single-season wins in their 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. The Bruins were at a three-way tie in wins (62) with the 2018-2019 Tampa Bay Lightning and the 1995-1996 Detroit Red Wings.

David Pastrnak dominated on Sunday for the Bruins. The 26-year-old right winger’s hat-trick performance brought him to his 60th goal of the season. Bruins hats flowed down onto Philadelphia’s own Wells Fargo Center ice after Pastrnak’s shot to the five-hole in the third period.

This marks Pastrnak’s 15th career hat trick and 300th career goal. The only player currently leading Pastrnak is Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid with 64 goals on the season.

Looking Forward

The Bruins will finish out the regular season this week with games against the Washington Capitals and the Montreal Canadians on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

On top of hopes to extend their win record, the Bruins are on the brink of multiple other titles. The team has currently racked up 131 points on the season- falling just one behind the 1976-1977 Montreal Canadians’ 132-point NHL record. With the two games left, more broken records do not seem too far out of reach.

Besides league-wide records, this Bruins team also crushed their previous franchise single-season points record of 121 held by the 1970-1971 team.

Stanley Cup Playoffs

The Bruins have secured both the President’s Trophy and home-ice advantage heading into the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Yet, history can often repeat itself. Neither the 2018-2019 Tampa Bay Lightning nor the 1995-1996 Detroit Redwings finished the season with the Stanley Cup in hand.

The 2022-2023 Bruins team has been nothing short of special for Jim Montgomery and his crew. They will be heading full steam into the playoffs coming off of their historic season.
