New Beginning
After winning the 2024 College Football National Championship with the University of Michigan, Harbaugh was named the new head coach of the Chargers Jan. 24.
Los Angeles fired former head coach Brandon Staley in December following a 63-21 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chargers ended the 2023 season with a 5-12 record, finishing last in the AFC West.
With players excited about this new start, Harbaugh said he’s looking forward to getting to work in this new chapter.
Making His Return
Harbaugh is no stranger to the NFL. He was the quarterbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders and the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers before joining Michigan in 2015. In his first year with the 49ers in 2011, Harbaugh was named NFL Coach of the Year.
In his 30th year coaching, it is unclear how many more seasons Harbaugh has left. He said that he wants another shot to win before his time coaching is over.
Brothers in Charge
Harbaugh’s older brother, John Harbaugh, has been the head coach for the Baltimore Ravens since 2008. The two went head-to-head in 2013 when the 49ers lost to the Ravens 34-31 in Super Bowl XLVII.
Following his championship win, Jim Harbaugh was there supporting his brother during Baltimore’s playoff stint, leaving fans excited to potentially see the two compete in the 2024 season.
A Future of Winning
Harbaugh made a promise to Los Angeles that there will be a future of winning. He said that the goal is to win multiple championships and not just one.
The offseason work has begun for Harbaugh, as his staff prepares for NFL training camp this summer.
